PTA Chairperson's Report 2018

2018 has been a very positive year for the PTA. At our AGM last November we had a record turn out and we started the year with a healthy numbers of helpers. After the low numbers we had been working with over the past few years it was fantastic to have so much support. This year we have relied on emails to communicate a lot and this has worked well. This has meant we have had minimal meetings and people can stil be involved with what is going on without having to give up a huge amount of time.
With the increased numbers on the PTA we have been able to continue with our fundraising efforts while also spending some time on community initiatives. We had the manpower to have a PTA Gazebo at goal setting day and this was a great way to connect with the community and meet some new people. We have also been able to introduce the Buddy Family System which is something that I have been thinking about for the past few years but have not had the time to do anything about. I am so pleased that the PTA can be involved in supporting new families in this way. I look forward to spending more time on these community initiatives in 2019 as this is an area I am very passionate about.

Key areas that the PTA have been involved in for 2018:
Fundraising
  • Clarkville School Twilight Gala – 23 March 2018
This year, for the first time ever, we were thrown the challenge of bad weather for the Gala this year. This meant that we had to come up with a new layout to keep everyone out of the rain and a few events had to be changed or cancelled. This was achieved with help from Brenda Martin and the teachers. While we didn’t get as many people through the gates as we would have liked the event was still a huge success raising just over $17,000 for the school. This event could not happen without the support of the whole community, thank you to those who took on whole sections of responsibility and to all the families who gave so generously to the Gala as well as the staff and sponsors.

  • Clarkville Musical Bingo – 8 June 2018
Musical Bingo returned this year and was a huge success again. Thanks to Vikki for making this event such a fun night. This year we managed the food in house which made the evening a really worthwhile fundraiser. Thanks to Hannah Leary and Dana Hauschild for all their hard work in the kitchen. Thanks also to Deborah Lamplugh for running the bar for the final time as this is her last year at Clarkville.

  • Te Reo Athon –  September 2018
We ran this fundraiser in conjunction with the school staff and while it wasn’t as successful as our Spellathon last year it was still a worthwhile fundraiser.

  • Other fundraising initiatives :
    - Entertainment books
    - Fundraising calendars

This year PTA funds have been allocated to IT infrastructure, the playground shade sails, and a number of student led initiatives. We have introduced a funding criteria and application process which has assisted in deciding where PTA funds should be used.

Giving Back/Services

  • Buddy Family System
Thanks to Jasmine Hazeldine and Sarah Long for helping to get this sytem up and running. We are still ironing out a few teething problems but the system is proving to be valuable. Thanks also to Dionne Shaw for taking over the management of this and for continuing this in 2019.
  • PTA Gazebo on Goal Setting Day
Thank you to all the parents that helped at the PTA Gazebo on Goal Setting Day. It was great to have a PTA presence on this day as it gave us the chance to re-connect with existing parents and meet some of the new families.
  • Second Hand School Uniform
Thanks to Hayley Barnes for continuing to look after the second hand school uniform.
  • School Lunches (Kindo)
Thanks to Jody Dench for taking on the job of managing the school lunches this year.

  • Clarkville School Disco – 10 August 2018
Thanks to Hannah, Emma and Rosina for organising the School Disco with the theme “Masked Ball”. The decorations were amazing and thanks to the children’s outstanding behaviour this was a fantastic school-wide event. Everyone went to so much effort with their masks! Thanks to the teachers for their support with this event and also a big thanks to the parents that joined us on the night and those that stayed behind to help clean up.

  • Helping to Organise Wet n Wild Day – December 2018
The PTA assists the School in organising Wet n Wild Day by coordinating Santa to visit and by purchasing the all important iceblocks as a treat for the children. We have a new Santa this year and he is looking forward to this year’s event planned for Tuesday 11th December.

Thanks to everyone involved in all of the PTA activities above. As always there are many people to thank for their contribution to the PTA activities. I would like to say a special thanks to Martha Drummond and Maree Breen for their support throughout the year and to Angie Kerry who has continued to help wherever she was needed even though she has taken a bit of a step back from the PTA. Thank you to the Board of Trustees for showing us great support this year. Thanks also to all the school staff for their never ending support in everything that the PTA throws their way. And finally thank you to all the parents that heard the call for help and volunteered where they could. I am very proud to be part of our fantastic community and the PTA.

All the best for the final few weeks of term 4 and on behalf of the PTA I would like to wish the whole community a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. I look forward to being part of the PTA again in 2019.

Yours sincerely
Krissie Clark
