Pathways

Pathways

At Clarkville School we value students developing their talents and interests in a range of areas and in in ways that focus on developing the whole child. Pathways Awards acknowledge that learning happens in all kinds of contexts, and not simply when inside the school gates. Children are encouraged to challenge themselves by participating in the Pathways Awards from Year 5 onwards, with the end of year medal being an incentive for this participation. Choice is an important part of Pathways and students what they will do when and can also create their own activities.

Examples of Pathways contexts are:
  • Culture and Heritage
  • Giving and Service
  • Health and Environment
  • Academic
  • Art and Media
  • Physical Activity and the Outdoors
  • Financial Literacy

GOALS  of the Pathways Awards

1. Life balance – promotes a broad appreciation of all areas of life.

2. Involvement and Appreciation – promotes enjoyment and encourages the development of new skills.

3. Improvement and Excellence – promotes the advancement of areas of strength and opportunities to improve in areas of challenge.

4. Character – develops goal setting, planning, diligence, perseverance, innovation and confidence.

Will the reduction in homework affect my child’s academic progress?

We believe not. It will encourage areas of strength, recognising current commitment to positive activities and encourage their skills in these areas. If they have an academic weakness pupils are able to set goals for improvement. The extra work in these areas will contribute towards their Pathways Award, as well as providing greater motivation for children to lead their own learning.

Will my child be unprepared for Year 9 homework requirements?

On the contrary, their goal setting, planning, implementation and reporting skills will be constantly honed in the Pathways Awards programme. Independence in these areas is an important skill for high school. We are receiving many reports regarding the excellent management skills our ex-pupils are showing in high school and we expect the same skills to be developed in our pupils.
